Lana Batts has forty years of collective experience in the trucking industry, most notably as president of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and senior vice president of government affairs for the American Trucking Associations (ATA). Her accomplishments include successfully revamping the Professional Truck Driver Institute and establishing the Truckload Academy. Batts serves on the board of directors of Brown Trucking Company and has previously served on the boards of PeopleNet Communication Company, Transportation Costing Group, SeaBridge International, and Mullen Transportation, Inc., a publicly traded Canadian Company. She is past president of the Transportation Research Forum. In 1997, she was named Woman of the Year by the Women’s Transportation Seminar and is the proud recipient of trucking’s highest honor, the S. Earl Dove award. She is also the co-president of Driver iQ, a background screening company. Originally from Billings, Montana, Lana divides her time between the Washington, D.C. area and northwest Montana.
As I look back at my career, I am most proud of the fact that I was a part of the original group that conceived the idea of a Commercial Driver’s License. I believe it is the foundation for the dramatic improvement in truck safety because of the accountability it brought to licensing truck drivers.
