lana batts

Lana Batts has served the trucking industry for almost three decades, most notably as president of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and senior vice president of government affairs for the American Trucking Associations (ATA). She also served as the executive vice president and chief development officer of Transportal Network, an Internet eCommerce infrastructure start-up company offering capacity and yield management as well as group purchasing services. Her accomplishments include successfully revamping the Professional Truck Driver Institute and establishing the Truckload Academy. Batts serves on the board of directors of Brown Trucking Company and has previously served on the boards of PeopleNet Communication Company, IdleAire Technologies Corporation, Transportation Costing Group, SeaBridge International, and Mullen Transportation, Inc., a publicly traded Canadian Company. She is past president of the Transportation Research Forum. In 1997, she was named Woman of the Year by the Women's Transportation Seminar and is the proud recipient of trucking's highest honor, the S. Earl Dove award.


richard mikes

Richard J. Mikes has been active in the leasing and transportation industry as a senior executive prior to his role as a TCP managing partner. Previously, Richard enjoyed a lengthy career with Ruan Transportation Management Systems, where he served as vice chairman. He first joined Ruan in 1975 and held increasingly more significant positions, including lead responsibility for merger and acquisition activity over 20 years. He was responsible for strategy, finance, information systems, human resources, risk management and safety, legal affairs, lease underwriting, engineering and purchasing, asset management and equipment sales, both nationally and internationally. Richard has been frequently quoted in leading industry publications and has spoken to a wide variety of national transportation organizations and suppliers. He served on the board of SeaBridge International, the Logistics Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Iowa Health System Foundation, the board of Iowa Lutheran Hospital, and the board of Beacon MicroCenters. He has served in leadership roles for the Iowa Business Association, the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, and other groups. He is also cofounder of a regional trucking operation and formerly served the Center for Transportation Research and Education at Iowa State University. He has been an industry leader in finance and is credited with innovative financing methods and enhancing capital availability in the trucking industry. He is past chairman of the National Accounting & Finance Council, and in 1996, he received the James E. Roelker Award, the highest honor given by the ATA. Richard was multiple team leader of the book Profitable Trucking targeting entrepreneurs in the industry. The book was republished in multiple editions and audio-tape marketed in record volume by the ATA. He authored two award winning papers on equipment life cycles and optimizing equipment economics. Richard holds a Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University and has served on the faculty at the University of Georgia and Iowa State. His efforts at the universities included heading multiple feasibility studies for processing plants, grain marketing industry structure, and other endeavors utilizing logistical components, spatial scale economics, and demand estimation in the national market.

miller welborn

W. Miller Welborn has 25 years of experience in the transportation industry. He formerly served as the president of Welborn Transport and Boyd Bros. Transportation. Most recently, he has served as president of Welborn and Associates, a transportation consulting firm which specializes in truckload operations and mergers and acquisitions. Miller attended the University of Alabama. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Big Oak Ranch, a Christian childrens home in Gadsden, Ala., and as an elder at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, where he attends with his wife Karen and three daughters. steven dutro

Steven Dutro has been a financial consultant helping trucking companies raise capital, improve financial management, and execute business strategies since 2001. He has been a workshop speaker at both the American Trucking Association (ATA) and Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) annual conventions, as well as being routinely quoted in various industry publications, including Transport Topics. Prior to joining TCP, Steven spent 30 years in financial management with public and private companies and as a Certified Public Accountant. From 1986 to 2001, he worked with KLLM Transport Services in Jackson, Miss., as senior vice president and chief financial officer, where he helped manage the company's revenues from $50 million to $236 million. KLLM raised capital through an initial public offering in 1986, various private debt placements, a secondary public stock offering in 1993, and several syndicated debt facilities and equipment leases. In response to a hostile takeover attempt, Steven managed KLLM's successful transition from public company back to being privately-held. He holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting with Special Honors from Mississippi State University.

Gailyn Larsen has over 30 years of experience in the transportation industry as a lawyer as well as a trucking company owner of Jay Lines in Dallas and Goodway Transport of York, Penn. Most recently founded and served as president of Larsen & Company, a transportation consulting firm engaged in merger and acquisition counseling. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of operating a trucking company, possesses a comprehensive understanding of the industry and enjoys a working relationship with many key figures and potential buyers. Mr. Larsen earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration and J.D. in Law from the University of Nebraska. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and was previously admitted to Bars in Nebraska, Iowa, and Texas. He is past chairman of the Independent Contractor Division and the Refrigerated Division of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), as well as past president of the National Perishable Logistics Association.
