David Johnston grew up in the trucking industry from an early age as his family
was involved in a large truckload carrier. He worked in all facets of the company
from maintenance, safety, recruiting, sales and operations. It was in operations
that he became entrenched in the idea of creating a better work environment for
over the road drivers. His passion for transportation and logistics has driven him
through various roles in the industry.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation and Physical Distribution
from Auburn University in 1995, David worked in various operations and inside sales
positions with KLLM Transport Services, a temperature controlled North American
truckload carrier. He then joined Boyd Brothers Transportation Company, a flatbed
carrier, where he worked in inside sales, operations, and served as Manager of Pricing
& Asset Utilization. In 1999 David joined BestTransport, a start-up company specializing
in transportation e-commerce, as Senior Vice President. He assisted in building
the functionality of their system with his practical industry experience. In 2002
David began working with Path Truck Lines, a flatbed carrier, and was promoted to
Chief Operating Officer of the Southern Division. In 2006 he began working with
Transport Capital Partners to assist truckload carriers with operations, sales,
infrastructure and overall profit improvement.
David’s roles and experience have led to a broad base of knowledge in operations,
sales, marketing, information technology, safety, customer service, pricing, and
asset utilization. This hands-on experience plays an integral part of Transport
Capital Partners’ “ground force” approach. He has also served on the advisory board
for the Truckload Profitability Strategies group at the University of Georgia and
multiple transportation companies.
